About Breast reduction
Breast reduction, also known as mammoplasty reduction, is a procedure that removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin in order to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. This intervention also involves moving the nipple or the areola to a higher position if needed.
This is a breast intervention for those who suffer from a voluminous chest causing discomfort and pain in their shoulder and back. It aims to:
– Relieve pain of shoulder and back associated with heavy breasts and stop the irritation of the shoulders and under the breasts.
– Improve the appearance of the silhouette
– Improve the chest appearance
– Help Finding a more easily adapted bra.
Breast reduction: what you need to know before the surgery
– Always make sure the breasts are “healthy” through a mammography test and thus eliminate any risk of pre-existing nodule which could require removal.
– The patient must agree on the size the breasts will have and which will condition the intervention.
– To stop smoking is recommended one month before the surgery to avoid any risk of poor healing.
Breast reduction in Tunisia: the Technical procedure
Our plastic surgeons practice the technique of vertical rise areola, to remove the gland and excess skin and reshape the breast with a scar around the areola which reduces its size if necessary. This technique involves a vertical scar that goes from the areola to the inframammary fold.
Other techniques allowing more shaped scars like inverted “T” or “L” or “˩” are no longer practiced by our surgeons.

Breast reduction surgery: Postoperative stage
When your breast reduction procedure is complete you will notice that the breasts are not really painful after the surgery but edemas and blue scars may appear. Dressings or bandages will be applied after the incisions. The dressing will be removed after 2 hours from the surgery. An elastic bandage or support bra will be worn and must be kept for two months. During this period the breast will take its final shape to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal. Showers are allowed after one week and Sport activities are allowed only after one month.
