Intraocular lense implants in Tunisia
Intraocular implants are used as a solution when the Lasik has no efficiency, especially for severe myopia cases.
Phakic implants are intended for myopic patients under 50 years whose myopia is between -10 and -20 diopters, even more, with or without astigmatism.
Iol Lense implants: the intervention
The intervention consists of a small incision in the area where the white of the eye encounters the cornea, inserting into the eye corrective synthetic lenses called intraocular implants without having to remove the lens. A few anesthetic drops are applied over the patient’s eye. Visual recovery occurs in the hours following the operation and the incision heals itself very quickly.
The placement of an intraocular implant is a small eye procedure that takes about 15 minutes and does not require hospitalization. The resumption of activities is possible within two days later.
In addition to the high degree of satisfaction and reliability, phakic Iol implants have the advantage of being small, flexible, and invisible. They are also reversible. This providing great comfort to patients, since the implant can be removed at any time. In addition to the latest, the intraocular implant allows a single procedure to correct two visual defects; nearsightedness and astigmatism.
The two types of phakic Implants
ICL implants
Posterior chamber, are placed behind the iris and in front of the lens. They are the most used. ICL implants correct the refractive defects of + 10 to – 18 diopters and astigmatism.
Implants ARTISAN
Anterior chamber, are placed between the iris and the cornea. ARTISAN implants are dedicated to myopia more than – 18 diopters.
The downside of phakic implants is the proximity of the cornea and the possibility of it being altered in the long term. Which could bring the ophthalmic surgeon to remove them.
