Bariatric surgery in Tunisia
Obesity surgery or bariatric surgery allows a significant weight loss in a sustainable manner if all weight loss programs have failed to achieve significant result among those who suffer from obesity for several years.
The obesity is measured through body mass index or BMI which is determined through dividing weight by height squared. When a BMI is equal to or greater than 35, it is called severe obesity. When the BMI is equal to or more than 40, it is called morbid obesity.
The obesity surgery works on the anatomy of the digestive system by modifying it. Restrictive techniques such as gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy reduce the stomach volume and the amount of ingested food. Malabsorptive techniques such as gastric bypass help reducing the size of the stomach while restricting the capacity of the body to absorb food.
